According to the great poet Subramania Bharathi, imparting education to the impoverished is the highest and noblest service to mankind. Our philanthropic founder Sri Calavala Cunnan Chetty garu who lived during the same period (1869-1920) of the freedom-poet also had realized this noble principle that he founded and supported schools at places like Perambur and Thiruvallur and generously patronized institutions of higher learning like the Pachayappa’s College for Men at Chetpet, to the Trust of which he was the trustee from 1914 to 1918. For the sake of continued support to the cause of education he created a Charity in his name in 1920 donating all his properties to it, just a few days before his attaining eternity.

The Dharmamurthi Rao Bahadur Calavala Cunnan Chetty’s Hindu College founded at Pattabiram in our founder’s birth centenary year of 1969 caters to the educational needs of the suburban and rural students of Chennai and Thiruvallur districts in keeping with his ideals that I am proud to state that most graduates in the surrounding villages are products of our College.

With the revolutionary change in education brought about by globalisation, computer and other technological advancements, our Self-financing College (Shift II) was founded in 1995 with adequate infrastructure to teach the modern subjects to the rural aspirants at affordable/low cost. Today, over 4000 students study in 20 different disciplines in both the Shift I and Shift II put together.

Our College offers holistic training to shape the youngsters as responsible citizens, conscious of their human and social obligations, by involving them sincerely and earnestly in activities of NSS, NCC, YRC, etc. Well aware of the bitter truth that most youngsters do not have access to nutrition during their college years, our Management, which expects the students to be healthy citizens to serve themselves, their fellows and the society in future, serves nutritious meal for lunch to poor students every day, free of cost. Book bank scheme and scholarships are among the numerous other programmes of our Management to ensure that no student is deprived of education on account of financial constraints.

I wish the staff and students of our College to strive diligently, keeping the high ideals of our founder for their perennial source of inspiration and strength.
